I can't decide what one would be the best for me. I like the twin cities race because the course looks nice and its a little bit larger race. On the other hand I like the Whistle Stop race because it's run on a nice trail and I love the surface. I'm not sure about the smaller race venue. It has a half the same day if my wife wanted to run that instead of the full. It's only an hour drive from my parents cabin. It's cheaper. It's on a Saturday.

I think Whistle Stop may be the race for me. The great thing about this is that if I procrastinate long enough Twin Cities will fill up. Any thoughts?

My how fast one can forget! Wisconsin has been smoke free for about a year and a half. I can't believe how fast I have taken this for granted. On are trip to Idaho we spent a night in Wyoming. The old west Wyoming! Wyoming is not a smoke free state. We entered the restaurant and were greeted with a unhealthy dose of smoke. We were asked if we wanted smoking or no smoking. I can't believe the entire country is not smoke free by now. Wisconsin was the last state in are area to go smoke free. We have a very strong tavern league in are state and they lobbied hard to keep Wisconsin a smoking state. All the taverns will go out of business, they claimed. Well were smoke free for a year and a half and the taverns are still there.

Another 50 degree day here in the supposed to be frozen tundra. This has been the easiest winter ever! I hope we don't pay the price for all of this warm weather this spring. I heard that we have been above normal every day but one since the first of December! Crazy! And no snow! None! Zero! Nada!

The only bad thing about this is that people have been falling through the ice every day here. Come on people! Be smart and stay off the ice!

This is what I expected to look like when I signed up for this race. Turns out it was sunny and 34 degrees! Amazing weather for the frozen tundra in January. On to the race.

Turned my Garmin on and learned I had not run outside since my last 5k in early December. The race went well. It was the exact course that I ran in December and I was 8 seconds slower. I had hoped to be a little fast but I'll take it after Christmas cookie season. I ran 26:38.

Up next? The Heartthrob 5k on February 11th. It will be the same course at the last two 5k's. It part of the winter running series put on by the local YMCA. PR in February? I hope so!

New Kicks!

Santa was good to the King and brought me some new kicks! Whew hew! Hot! And in my favorite color. I also recieved some new running gear to replace the old stuff that I have to chase around the room to put in the gym bag. My fellow gym rats will appreciate that.

Got in a six miler on the dreadmill this morning. Didn't feel the best today. Must be the cookie lag or something. Running inside sucks! Hopeing to get back outside soon when daylight permits. All for now, hope santa was good to you all as well!

On a happy note I am starting this new year 30 pounds lighter than last year! 30 freaking pounds! It can only mean a better year. Back to wearing size 32 jeans! Life is good!

A Toyota Highlander. For the past four years I have been getting through the winter with a Prius and loving that great gas mileage. We live out in the country and snow days are tough. For the past years I have been able to borrow my daughters Rav 4 on snow days and my wife gave her a ride to school in are other Highlander. Daughter in now in college at BYU Idaho with the Rav 4. Soooooo, it was time. Going to miss the gas mileage but will be loving the ride and the extra room.

Well winter is upon us. I hate winter. Every year winter gets longer and longer. More and more of my runs are now on the dreadmill. As long as this is my rant I'll include the dreadmill. I hate the dreadmill!

I know I know. Buck up and deal with it. I know I will but that doesn't mean that I have to like it. I hate winter! Did I mention that?

Saturday is the Jingle Bell 5k and of course there is snow in the forecast. I hate snow! Snow goes along with winter and I hate winter! Oh yea I said that.

So if you happen to be reading this from some beach location just thing of me up here in the frozen Tundra of Wisconsin hating winter. Bah humbug!

MERRILL, Wis. — A Merrill man apparently knew he had too much to drink. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department says the 21-year-old man called 911 Sunday night to let dispatchers know he was driving drunk in Merrill and needed to go to jail.
The dispatcher asked the man to pull over. He stopped on Main Street where he was arrested for operating while intoxicated-first offense.
Ironically, it's not the first time a drunken driver has alerted deputies about being intoxicated. It also happened last August when a Merrill woman drove up to a deputy's squad and said she had "way too much to drink."
Lt. Randy Albert tells WSAW-TV her blood alcohol was 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit for driving.

To Trot or not to Trot?

Tomorrow is the UWL Turkey Trot. The weather doesn't look the best and I have been battling a lung illness. So the question is "To Trot or not to Trot? I'm thinking that I'm going to do it. I don't think my time will be the best with the crap in my lungs but it should still be fun. So gobble gobble, on to the trot!

For the first time in forever I'm under two hundred pounds! One Der Land baby! No longer a Clydesdale!

It's been a long journey! I started the year at 225 and have slowly been coming down. The last month I've been having some potentially serious medical issues so I think stress may have also played a role. But I have changed my diet and have increased my running!

Now comes the hard part. Staying in wonderland over the holidays (cookie season).

A 37-year-old Magna man has been charged after police said they caught him smuggling a large samurai sword inside his bicycle while pedaling down a city street.

A Utah Highway Patrol trooper noticed the man on July 3 riding a bike in the dark without a light near 2680 South and 8850 West in Magna and stopped him, according to the criminal complaint filed Wednesday in 3rd District Court.

A police officer searched the bicycle and found a large samurai sword inside the bicycle, the complaint shows. The complaint did not say why the man was carrying a sword nor how it was concealed inside the bicycle.

The man, a convicted felon who is prohibited from having a weapon, was arrested and charged with possession or use of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, a third-degree felony.

Today was kind of cold and really windy so we opted to head to the Y for an indoor workout. I guess I'm kind of a wimp. I needed to do some upper body work and I know if I ran outside I would blow off the gym. We had a wedding in the early afternoon so the morning was the only time to get a workout in. I ran 5 miles on the dreadmill and then did some upper body weight work. Ramona did her Zumba class. She tried to get me to go, but I don't think Zumba is for me.

The #4 ranked badgers killed Indiana today 59-7! I hurried home from the gym to watch the game and it was pretty much over after the first quarter.

Started my bowling night pretty good and then went downhill. I started with a 238 and then just could not put a run together. Here a double there a double. Second game was a 210 and then ended with a 200. 648 is not a bad series but it always nicer when you end on a best game. So ended up shooting about my current average of 215.

I guess it was just an orinary average night. I bowled a few frames but didn't have to take out the trash or pick up the dog do and hope that it's hard. Just an ordinary average night for an ordinary averge guy.

St.Pats 5k Run

St.Pats 5k Run

Finally time for a flat run! The last few races have all been hilly so to run a flat 5k was a treat. It was a perfect fall day for a race. Temperature was above normal for this time of year. It was about seventy at the start of the race, sunny and a strong south wind. Gotta get that warm are up here some how. Right?

Ramona took her normal position at the front and I settled in near the back. More people to pass is always better for me. The start was pretty good. Ramona was off like a rocket and I settled in to a good pace. This was a small race so positioning at the start was not really an issue. First mile flew by pretty fast and I was surprised with my first mile split of 8:44. Didn't think I was running that fast. I think I passed Ramona right after the first mile. She always likes to start fast. Mile two was a little slower 9:07 and I was a little disappointed with that. I thought I was faster for mile 3 but was at 9:00 flat. Kicked for the finish in 40 seconds from there and finished at 27:33.

Ramona came in at about 29 minutes or so and once again took home some hardware with a 2nd place finish. I was happy with my time and had a great time. Now it's time to enjoy the day and some disc golf in the sun.

Update! Ramona ran 28:51! New PR! First time under 30 minutes and now under 29! Awesome!

B Fit 5k and a little more

Great day for a race. The air was cool and crisp and plenty of sunshine. I think it was in the upper 30's at the start of the race. This was the grand opening for the new B-Fit gym in Holmen. There were only about 50 runners, but that was okay because the race was on the Holmen Creek trail and it's a bit narrow. I run on this trail a lot and love it. Some good hills and lot's of corners as it winds along the creek. The course was a bit longer than the announced 5k. I had it at 3.33 and Ramona had 3.40 miles. I guess I cut the corners. My time was not what I expected but my mile splits were all where I thought they would be. Great race! Ramona and Jayde both won there age group. More hardware for the girls. Lance was a hoot with his get up and it was nice to run with Alicia. We all had fun.

Oktoberfest 5 Mile Run

Had a great run today! We ran the LaCrosse Oktoberfest 5 mile race this morning. Ramona ran with Landon and Daniella so she did not run for time. I stayed with them for the first mile and then ran my own pace. I was happy because I ran negative splits for all five miles. My forth mile was a little over nine minutes and my last mile was eight forty-five. I was really happy with that! I think it was my first sub nine minute mile of the year. This was also my longest run of the year. The weather was perfect! About fifty degrees and sunny. Had a great time!

Ramona stayed with Landon for all five miles and he struggled a little with sore knees. They ran for "True Blue". True Blue benefits abused children. Landon has done a couple of races this summer and raised a lot of money for the organization. He's a great young man.

Had a decent night bowling last night. Started a little slow with a 211 and then finished the night with a 235 and 234 for a 680 series. We were playing the other team "The Lane Rangers" from work so there was a little added pressure to bowl good. We won two of the three games and total.

Running the Octoberfest five mile in the morning and I'm looking forward to that. The fall air is always nice for running. It's kind of a neat run because you run down the parade route turn around and run back. There is a ton of fan support because after the race the parade starts. This will be my longest run of the year but I know I can do it. Just want to start out and hold a good steady pace.

Run to the Edge 5k

We ran the 5k race in LaCrescent "Run to the Edge". It was a great morning for a run. Cloudy and about 50 at the start. This is a hard race! The entire course is either up or down. Mostly up! The route is a point to point race and the finish is above the start line. It would be better if the race was backwards! I was happy with my time considering the route. Ran the first mile in about 9:20,second in about 10:30 and the last mile in 9:05. The last tenth was about 25 seconds. Fun run!

Ran the Holmen Park 5k after work! 29 Minutes! My goal was always to break 30 and I barely did that last month. Didn't look at my watch the entire run and just stayed in my comfort zone. I think I could run closer to 28 minutes if I really pushed it. I'll find out on October 1st when I run the B Fit 5k. Until then I'm happy with my 29!

The running of the Lake

Traveled north to Winona for a little disc golf and a run around the lake. Had a great run! Weather was perfect sunny and about 68! Ran around the big lake and a little farther for 4 miles in 36:38! That's good for me!

Nice even splits of 9:13, 9:13, 9:06 and 9:06!
